As a self-proclaimed tea lover, I find there’s a lot of waste in the art, with so much packaging thrown away afterwards, as well as the tea leaves themselves. With blossom, I hoped to create a more sustainable solution for both issues. Instead of individually wrapped tea bags, the product would be individual floral tea pods, which bloom inside hot water to brew tea. Further, there would be a biodegradable waste bag provided in the box to discard tea in, which could then be composted for a garden. Finally, the box itself would be made of seed paper and cellulose-based plastic, so it could be planted and bloom into a beautiful plant after all product has been used.
The design of the packaging takes inspiration from blossoming trees in East Asian countries during the spring season. The box itself is uniquely shaped, tilting at an angle to show off the floral fastener. Overall, for this project, I focused on the ideas of blossoming and blooming new growth.
